US Secretary of State John Kerry arrived in Baghdad on Sunday on a surprise trip to press Iraqi politicians for greater cooperation over the clash in Syria, an AFP reporter with him stated. Kerry’s visit, his 1st to Baghdad since taking office.
It comes just days after the Tenth anniversary of the US-led attack of Iraq that ousted Saddam Hussein and sought to create a stable democratic friend in the heart of the Middle East, but has instead left a country still grappling with dangerous violence and endless political conflicts.
Kerry will meet PM Nuri al-Maliki and parliament speaker Osama al-Nujaifi and press Iraqi officials for better cooperation on separating the regime of embattled Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
