India summons Chinese diplomat over envoy attack

India on today called Beijing`s deputy chief of mission in New Delhi to protest about a courtroom attack on an Indian diplomat in the Chinese city of Yiwu, authorities and reports says. Zhang Yue was called to the Indian foreign ministry after the episode on Saturday in which S. Balachandran was hurt in a dispute between Chinese and Indian investors, says a govt official who dropped to be named.

Balachandran taken to hospital after Chinese businessmen assaulted him during a court lawsuit in which he was attempting to safe the release of 2 Indians held over apparently not paid bills, the Press Trust of India news agency says. In Beijing, Indian embassy spokesman Vinayak Chavan says that Shanghai-based Balachandran wasn’t severely injured.“It wasn’t that severe, but there’s some manhandling,” Chavan says.

Chinese authorities weren’t immediately available for opinion.
