At least five people were killed and 44 others injured as a powerful blast ripped through a crowded general bus stand in Mingora City of Swat district here on Thursday, police said.
Talking to reporters here, DIG Malakand, Qazi Jamilur Rahman has however confirmed the death of four persons. However, later on one more critical injured expired at Saidu Sharif hospital due to his burnt wounds. A woman and child are among the five persons whose dead bodies were brought to hospital Dr Main Gul of Saidu Sharif hospital said.
Some reports said that a security forces convey was passing through the area when a suicide bomber blasted himself that resulted spreading of pool of blood and human flash all around the bus stand.
The casualty figure may rise further as condition of some of the victims is critical.
The DIG Malakand said the blast apparently a suicide explosion occurred on Mingora-Peshawar road near General Bus Stand Mingora capital town of Swat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Police said people and tourists were gathered in the bus stand to hire vehicles to visit Kalam to participate in the peace festival when a huge explosion occurred.
DIG Malakand said probe of the blast has been ordered and the culprits would soon be brought to justice.
The police and local rushed to the site and shifted the injured to Saidu Sharif Hospital. Emergency in hospital has been imposed and doctors on leave have called in for duty.
The security forces soon after the incident cordoned off the area and started search operation. The condition of some of the injured are stated to be critical. At least 10 shops and eight vehicles were damaged in the blast.
The Chief Minister Khyber Pakthunkhwa, Ameer Haider Khan Hoti has strongly condemned the blast and termed it cowardice act. In a statement here, he said that a handful of militants would not be allowed to play with lives of people and peace of Swat. He said that culprits involved in this heinous act would soon be brought to justice.
He directed the Saidu Sharif Hospital administration to provide best medical facilities to the injured.
