Adviser to Prime Minister on Interior A Rehman Malik on Tuesday said that six suicide bombers were arrested during long march.
Speaking in the National Assembly,he said they were arrested after investigation by law enforcement agencies.
He said 45 kilograms of explosive material was recovered from near
Lahore and some people also arrested.
He said the media would be informed in details in a day or two.
“The government is not asleep and is aware of its duties.We are doing our best to break their network and punish the culprits,” he said.
Referring to media reports,he said investigations were carried out about the reported US attack on June 14 in South Waziristan Agency in an extremely inaccessible area.
“But it turned out to be mis-reporting by the media as no such attack took place on June 14,” he said.
The investigation,he said, was carried out on the orders of the Prime Minister.
Rehman Malik called for referring the matter to the standing committee of the house,so that investigation could be carried out into the mis-reporting by media.
He said from June 16, satellite monitoring of Pakistan’s western borders has been started and the authorities will be able to monitor the situation there from Islamabad.
Referring to an attack in D I Khan on a mosque, he said it was a sectarian incident involving Shiite and Sunni factions.
He said similar incidents were going on in Parachinar for the last ten years, which spill over into D I Khan.
Jirga meetings,one of which was held in Abbottabad,he said will help in defusing the situation.
Riaz Hussain Pirzada on a point of order pointed out that a van of a private television channel was looted near Tarnol in Islamabad last night and the four persons travelling in it were taken hostage.
These persons, he said, were released in Westridge, Rawalpindi late Monday night.Rehman Malik in response said he will thoroughly investigate the incident and inform the National Assembly.
He said since the coalition government got into power some two and a half months ago, there has been only one bomb blast in Islamabad.
The overall street crime in the country,he said, has declined by 65 percent while in Sindh it has decreased by 45 percent”This has been made possible due the string operations we have carried out all over the country.”
He said the crime graph, which has been going up over the past eight years is going down today.
“I am quoting from the figures and the figures don’t lie,” he said.
