South African batsman Hashim Amla has declared his decision to quit from the spot of vice captain of the team’s ODI and Twenty20 squads following his reluctance to take over the captaincy from AB de Villiers during the ODI series against Black caps.
Asking for some time to concentrate on his batting, Amla mentioned that it would be not fair for him to don the vice-captain job if he’s not comfortable of taking over the captaincy from De Villers, Sport24 reports.
As per Amla, although captaincy has always been an exploratory area for him, after leading 3 ODIs and few T20s, he felt that it time to prepare a potential successor for the skipper job. He also mentioned that he will continue to be an advisor for the squad and will remain active on the field as a senior cricketer.
