The 1st of the 2 Twenty20 Internationals between South Africa and Pakistan was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to rain here at the Kingsmead on Friday.
Rain fell for most of the mid-day and was still falling at the slated time for the toss. Although the pitch spot was protected there were big puddles on the outfield and ground workers said it would’ve taken at least 2 hours to get the field ready if the rain stopped.
The umpires cancelled the match about half an hour after it’s due to start. The 2nd and last T20 will be played at Centurion on Sunday.
