The Sub-Committee of the Senate Standing Committee on Water and Power Monday took serious note of the loadshedding in Karachi and urged the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) to invest in the maintenance of infrastructure and power generation as was committed by it during privatization.
The committee presided over by Senator Dr Javed Leghari regretted that not a single unit of electricity has been added by KESC during the last three years despite the fact that the demand for electricity has increased by 25 per cent.
The committee was of the view that KESC must provide immediate relief to common man and refrain from loadshedding in Ramadan particularly during Sehri and Iftar timings.
Naveed Ismail, CEO, KESC briefed the Senate body on various issues confronting the KESC including supply of natural gas to its Korangi plant.
The meeting was also attended by Senators Abdul Razak Thahim and Muhammad Amin Dadabhoy.
