A three-member bench of the Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the authorities to distribute Rs. 1.75 billion among the Margalla Tower affectees without delay.
The bench dismissed the petition of Ramzan Khokhar, a main accused in Margalla Tower case as withdrawn after recording statement of the petitioner’s counsel Asghar Hussain Sabzwari. Chief Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, Justice Muhammad Nawaz Abbasi and Justice M.Javed Buttar heard the case at length. Khokhar, owner of the CCC construction company of Margalla Tower along with others including engineers and consultants had filed a petition in for allowing them to submit a review petition in the main case and protection of his rights regarding the property of Margalla Tower. The bench said that Khokhar and his wife have already been declared fugitive from justice and first they should surrender before the courts and apply for bail. The police have already lodged FIRs against Khokhar and his wife besides others involved in the project of Margalla Tower. The amount had been deposited with the office of the Registrar of Supreme Court by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) in accordance with the decision of the apex court. A three-member committee headed by Deputy Registrar Khalid Nasim was constituted to work out distribution of the amount.
The committee will distribute the amount among affectees as it has already categorized all the 148 collapsed flats of the Tower as per size
