Former federal minister for information and railways Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has decided to form a new political party next month quitting PML-Q after his defeat in February 18 general elections.
Sources said that the former PML-Q leader Friday met his party President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Friday at the party central secretariat and informed him about his future line of action and forming a new party. However, name and composition as well as manifesto of the party is yet to be disclosed.
Among other qualities, the vocal politician from Rawalpindi Sheikh Rashid had also experience of changing political parties starting from Pakistan Peoples Party to PML-N later joining PML-Q after 2002 general elections in which he managed to secure two NA seats simultaneously.
After joining PML-Q he became a frontline supporter of President Pervez Musharraf as well as his policies and remained a fierce critic of Sharif brothers during his ministership. He was first given portfolio of Information and Broadcasting Ministry in Prime Minister Jamali’s cabinet and later became Federal Minister for Railways when the then Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz had reshuffled portfolios.
