Sindh chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Saturday accused that the former rulers had deprived poor masses of employment means, thus forcing them to commit suicides. Talking to lawyers at district bar room here, the chief minister accused the past ruling junta belonging to privileged class failed to serve the poor masses. Their wrong policies put the country at stake, exposing it to socio-economic exploitation.Qaim Ali Shah said the PPP government had strengthened country’s economy during its past tenures and millions of jobs were given to poor without any discrimination.He said Benazir had been striving for the cause of democracy, adding her political vision was even praised abroad.Later, he told journalists that Sindh had adequate quantity of wheat in stock. He termed the black marketing of this commodity the main reason behind the shortage and said it had happened due to ill-conceived policies of previous government. “There will be no wheat crisis in the province in future”, he vowed.Qaim Ali Shah recalled they did not leave the party during critical times of dictatorship Yahya Khan, Ayub Khan and Ziaul Haq. “We served the party as worker. That is why today the results are before the people”.To a question, he said Shaheed Benazir Bhutto had taken a wise decision on the announcement of boycott of election by APDM. She dissuaded the PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif not to waste the chance of election.He maintained the present government had accepted bundles of issues given to it by former as a challenge and a planning was underway to resolve them. On the occasion, the chief minister presented a cheque worth Rs0.5 million for construction of lawyers’ housing society, while amount to same tune will also be given in next phase.
