To ensure availability of flour in the province, Punjab government has taken control of flour mills by deploying police force and staff of Food Department on Sunday.

The police and staff of city government took the charge of floor mills in the city and nearby areas after talks between Flour Mills Association and administration failed to reach any consensus on the price of 20-kg flour bag.

While the government positioned its officials of food department at the flour mills and the flour has started to be grinded under their monitoring.

Administration said it would not allow flour shortage in Sunday bazaars. Police closed down the gates and didn’t allow anyone to enter or go out.

The government had made arrangements to handle the situation, as its wheat-laden trucks were ready to be sent in the mills in case owners made an excuse of wheat shortage.

The mills’ workers showed some resistance at some places but the police succeeded to start the grinding process.

Meanwhile, FMA adviser Bilal Sufi said it was not possible to fix the prices to Rs300 per bag, as the rates of wheat offered by the government were also high. He asked the government to stop brutality and use of force.
