Punjab govt sets up truth commission

The Punjab Cabinet in its first meeting on Tuesday decided to set up a truth commission to probe into eight years long victimization, injustices and financial losses.The cabinet also decided to ban on transfers, making better governance, keeping office doors open for public, setting up open kachehries for people, giving right to common man to go to courts if finds deficiency of anything in government department and providing full proof security to the lawyers’ long march. The first meeting of the Shahbaz led cabinet was held in Chief Minister’s Secretariat with Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in the chair.
Pervez Rasheed, special advisor to Chief Minister briefed the media about the decisions taken in the cabinet.
Secretary information Punjab Orya Maqbool Jan and D.G. P.R were also present on the occasion.Rasheed said the government has decided to set up a truth commission to carry out probe in to eight years long excesses, injustices and financial losses with the public, political leaders.”The objective of the commission is not to take revenge from someone but to stop such practice in future”, he explained.The cabinet also took the decision to impose ban on all types of transfers.
He said the government will take effective steps for good governance in the province and every action of the government will be made transparent so that to keep the public abreast of the situation.
There has been dictatorial rule in the country for the last eight years, which favoured friends and victimized the opponents and created many problems, he added.He said that the three lane bridges at Tokhar Niaz Beg were reduced to two lane to save the beauty of show room of cars of a politician of Punjab.
“Our government is not the government of one man but will work for the prosperity of the public”, he explained.He quoted CM as advising the ministers that open their offices for the public, setting up open kachehries to know people problems about their departments and resolve their issues on priority basis.
The cabinet also decided to make such laws, which authorized a common man to approach the court if he failed to get facility from any government department, he added.
The cabinet also decided to provide fool proof security to the lawyers’ long mach and arrangements in this regard are being finalized, he said.He said the government has constituted a committee to auction the useless bullet proof vehicles.The objective of coming back of Mian Nawaz Sharif is to take part in lawyers’ long march and hoped that Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry along with other judges will be restored and problems can not be solved without independent judiciary, he concluded.
