President Pervez Musharraf has resigned from office here on Monday, he made this announcement while addressing to the nation.
Giving last speech being President of Pakistan, Musharraf said ‘today is the day of important decisions,’ my nine years have seen unprecedented challenges in the country, but Pakistan first remained my philosophy and I have transformed each crisis in to an opportunity.
Highlighting his achievements he said our economic policies won resounding endorsement globally but we were being blamed on economic crisis in the country. These economic crises were only six month old in which new coalition government took charge of the country.
We were being made responsible for the power crisis but they were mainly due to surging demand in the country, he added.
The government should focus on future, forget past, he said.
After detailing economical achievements Musharraf turned face of his speech on the political reconciliation in the country to bring true democracy.
I initiated the reconciliation process, February 18 elections were fair and transparent, the president said.
I am answerable in front of parliament, presidency did not conspired against the government then why the coalition wanted to impeach me? The president questioned government.
‘No charge sheet can stand against me’, he stated.
Musharraf said country would suffer in case of impeachment.
Concluding his speech President Musharraf announced his resignation.
