The Central Executive Committee (CEC) of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has unanimously nominated the party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari as candidate for presidency. This was stated by Federal Information Minister Sherry Rehman here on Friday, while briefing the media about the deliberations of the PPP CEC, which met at Zardari House on Friday.

She said no consideration was made over any alternative name for presidency as all the members of CEC named Zardari as a consensus presidential candidate. She said the PPP had the right on the office of president and the CEC gave credit to party Chairman and Co-chairman of dismantling General Pervez Musharraf (Retd) from his office.

She said that Asif Ali Zardari thanked the party members for his nomination, as next president of the country and the decision would be made public in coming 24 hours. Senior PPP leader Mukhdoom Amin Faheem also endorsed the nomination of Asif Zardari as candidate for presidency, she added.

She informed the media that the allied parties of PPP, including Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) and Awami National Party (ANP) also expressed their support for the nomination. To a question regarding the resolution to be tabled in the parliament to reinstate the deposed judges, she said a draft committee, comprising Raza Rabbani, Farooq Naek and Sherry Rehman, was constituted over the judges’ restoration. She said minus-one formula was not contemplated in the CEC meeting.
