The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Friday asked the government to immediately address the lack of trust in its policies to save the economy from meltdown. In a statement, PML-N spokesman Ahsan Iqbal said President Asif Ali Zardari’s government faced major trust gaps, which were hampering the country’s ability to put the economy on the right track. “The poor economic policies and corruption scandals have plummeted the confidence of the nation in Zardari’s regime and more than 80 percent people feel that the country is headed in the wrong direction,” Ahsan said.
“The people feel betrayed by the government, which has continued the policies of former president Pervez Musharraf and dashed all hopes of the people to see real change.” He said, “The government has come out openly to protect Musharraf from any accountability. Resultantly, the approval ratings of President Zardari have fallen from 64 percent to 32 percent within a year.” He said the government had reneged on all promises it had made with the PML-N.
