Police contingency plans for polls from Feb 16: IG SindhInspector General of Police, Sindh, Azhar Ali Farooqui has ordered police officials to implement their respective police contingency plans for the election from Feb 16.

Issuing directives for election preparations, IGP asked them to exercise the proactive policing so that effective security could be maintained for elections and people could use their right to vote in peaceful environment.

IGP imposed a ban on officials’ going on leave in police department during elections and instructed staff in subordinate offices to perform election duties properly.

He said that staff assigned election duties would be provided lodging and boarding facilities and in this regards funds had already been provided at district level.

Azhar Farooqui asked the RPOs of Hyderabad and Sukkur and CCPO Karachi to ensure snap checking in their respective areas, adding help of Rangers should be sought, if and when needed. He said legal action should be taken against display of weapons, besides a special campaign be launched against proclaimed offenders and criminals.
