The Constitutional Experts’ Committee of the PML-Q has endorsed the reinstatement of deposed judges at the pre-Nov 3 position. Briefing the mediapersons after the maiden meeting of the body, Senator Wasim Sajjad, the convener of the committee said that the committee had already told the party leadership that the restoration of the judges needed an amendment into the constitution as “only executive order is not sufficient to restore the deposed judges”.”The body favours the reinstatement of the deposed judges at Nov 2 position. However, this would need constitutional package. We also endorse that the incumbent judges should also continue to avoid any constitutional crisis,” said Wasim Sajjad who was flanked by Party Secretary General Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed and Labour Wing leader Faqir Hussain Bokhari. Sajjad said the meeting also expressed concern over the fact that the PPP did not submit the package to the PML-Q, despite the fact that no amendment could sail through the Senate without the nod from the PML-Q, which enjoyed majority in the Upper House of Parliament. He said the PPP had itself said that its package was not final and it would be amended according to the proposals from the coalition partners. “Since the PPP itself is yet to final its recommendations, we would also public our final recommendations once the PPP issues its final version. However, the meeting decided to review the proposed package while our recommendations would also be finalised. We would also finalise our proposals which we feel should be included in the package,” he said. When the Senator was asked which recommendations his party felt necessary to be included in the package which have been overlooked by the PPP, Wasim Sajjad said the package was silent over any proposal regarding ensuring provincial autonomy.
