Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif says Pakistan Muslim League (N) will not rest till reinstatement of Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry and other deposed judges. Talking to mediamen after holding a meeting with his party workers at his Model Town residence, Shahbaz said success of the lawyers’ long march indicates that the nation wants restoration of the judiciary and ouster of Pervez Musharraf from the Aiwan-e-Sadr.
He said the PML (N) leadership will not rest nor would it allow others to rest till the judges’ issue was resolved according to the aspirations of the lawyers and the people at large.
He paid tributes to the lawyers leadership for keeping the long march peaceful and disciplined, for despite participation of hundreds of thousands people in the countrywide protest march, not a single “leaf” was damaged anywhere in the country. “Termination of the long march without holding a “dharna” (sit in) outside the Parliament house in Islamabad was lawyers’ own decision”, he added.
Shahbaz said that the Punjab budget for 2008-09 being announced on Monday, would be pro-poor under which measures would be taken to provide relief to common man and generate jobs for the unemployed.
He reiterated that the government would recover the looted money of the people from the previous ‘corrupt’ rulers after holding their court trials and spend it on welfare of the poor segment of the society.
Shahbaz announced to turn the under construction Imax theatre and commercial plaza on the M M Alam Road in Gulberg, Lahore into a state of the art public library and a recreational park for the general public.
He said open kutcheries would be held on every Thursday and Sunday at his Model Town Lahore residence to hear and solve problems of the common man and the party workers.
