PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif accepted defeat in Saturday’s presidential election, saying it hoped winner Asif Ali Zardari would be ‘apolitical’ as head of state.

“We accept the results and we hope Zardari will resign from his party position immediately,” Khwaja Saad Rafiq, leader of PML-N told reporters after the election.

PML-N information secretary Ahsan Iqbal added: “We hope Zardari will remain apolitical as president.”

Later PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif has said that PML-N will definitely participate in the oath taking ceremony of Asif Ali Zardari if he is elected as President.

In an interview to a private television channel, he said democracy is the real goal of Pakistan, but he fears that the policies of the previous government are still continuing.
