Pakistan is a sovereign country, so US will discourage them and frankly, there are significant internal threats to President Karzaiās administration, Press Secretary Geoff Morrell told a briefing.
He said the US is acutely aware of border concerns and the need to secure the border with all sides including Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nato working together.
Meanwhile, a White House spokesman Tony Fratto underlined the need for the two South Asian nations to work together to scale down tension and stop threats to both countries.
Jirga process, he said, has been a successful effort in the past and the US would like to see more of that.
