Parliament will not be allowed to become rubber stamp: Dr FahmidaSpeaker National Assembly Dr Fahmida Mirza has said the parliament would not be allowed to become a rubber stamp and the country will be run through legislation instead of ordinances. In an interview with APP, she said that people were looking towards elected parliamentarians for solution of their problems and holding parliamentary debate on all important national issues including terrorism was must.She said that proper representation would be given to women and minority legislators in parliamentary committees and equal representation would be given to members of opposition benches in the National Assembly.Dr Fahmida said that it was matter of honour for her that she was not only first women speaker of Pakistan but of the entire Islamic World.She said that huge responsibility lied on her shoulders being a Speaker of the National Assembly because eyes of international world are focused on Pakistan in present situation.”I will do justice to my post and being a custodian of the house I will run the house according to rules and regulations”, she said.She said that it was the responsibility of every parliamentarian to discuss those issues which derail the democratic process in the country time and again, adding it was the responsibility of parliamentarian to create relationship between the state and people.Replying to a question, she said that parliamentary committees were spirit of democratic system and these committees would be made more stronger and effective.She said the presence of minsters in the house during question hours session would be made ensured so that they personally reply to questions of public problems.Replying to another question regarding investigation into Benazir Bhutto martyrdom, she said that National Assembly resolution would be sent soon to the government for investigating the case through the United Nations.
