Musharraf to meet British PM Gordon Brown today
President Pervez Musharraf will meet with the British Prime Minister Gordon Brown here on Monday.
The two leaders are expected to discuss a whole spectrum of important issues including bilateral relations, counter-terrorism, Afghanistan, Pakistan-India peace process and the democratic progression in Pakistan.
President Musharraf arrived in the British capital on Friday on the final leg of his European swing aimed at removing misunderstanding and misperception about the situation in Pakistan and to inform the Government leaders and opinion-makers about the democratic process in the country.
President Musharraf reached London from Davos, Switzerland, after attending the World Economic Forum. He earlier visited Belgium and France.
On Friday President addressed the prestigious security think-tank Royal United Services Institute where spoke on ‘Vision for Pakistan and Regional Harmony,’ and stoutly defended his country’s role in the war against terror and termed the stability in Pakistan as critical for the entire world.
On the domestic issues, he pledged to hold the February 18 parliamentary election in a fair, free, peaceful and transparent manner and sought more foreign investments as a way to banish poverty and remove economic disparities.
Later the same evening President Musharraf also addressed the British-Pakistani community at a local hotel on issues and challenges facing the country. He had two quiet days on Saturday and Sunday.
The President will commence his final day in UK by speaking to the members of the British media in the morning before proceeding to the Downing Street for talks with Brown in the afternoon.
The President will later deliver a talk at the Royal College of Defence Studies and hold meeting with the members of the UK-based Pakistani media before leaving for home at the conclusion of his fifth visit to Britain later in the evening.
