President Pervez Musharraf has said that he has not been an obstacle in the democratic process and government affairs and playing his constitutional role. He was talking to US Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia Richard Boucher who called on the president at presidential camp office on Wednesday.
The president said his doors have been opened for all including Nawaz Sharaf and he has no differences with anyone. He said confrontation has inflicted much damage to the country.The US state department official in meeting with the president discussed the operation against militants in Khyber Agency. Richard Boucher also informed the president about reservations expressed by the leaders of Pakistan Muslim League-N and Peoples Party during meetings with him.
Musharraf said he backs the government strategy in FATA, without which militancy would not be eliminated in the area. He said operation against militants in Khyber Agency is the demand of the ground realities. He urged United States an early aid for the economic progress zones in tribal areas to alleviate poverty to prevent people from moving towards crimes and extremism.
He said terrorism is unlikely to be eliminated by the use of force only.President Musharraf talking on the political situation said his doors have been opened for all including Nawaz Sharaf and he has no differences with anyone. He said he doesn’t want to create problems for anyone as confrontation has already inflicted much damage to the country.
Musharraf said he wants to see the parliament to complete its tenure. He said he was not interfering in government matters but extending support and cooperation. He said he was playing his constitutional role as president and want better relations with the government.
