Interior Ministry Spokesman Brig. Javed Iqbal Cheema (Retd) has appealed to the people to continue whole-hearted cooperation with the government’s efforts to defeat terrorism and to ensure smooth and orderly transfer of power to the elected representatives.
Addressing a news briefing, here on Tuesday, the Spokesman said this would pave the way for the country to keep moving forward on the path to progress and bright future. To a question, he said the terrorists and militants are trying to put pressure on new government which is now taking place through terrorist activities. He reiterated the resolve of the government and the people to hunt down and punish the culprits.
Referring to blast in Naval War College, Lahore, he said it was a suicide blast. He said it took place in the empty transport shed of the College. He said all officers including trainee officers are safe and sound.The Spokesman said it has been unfortunate that there have been three suicide atacks during the last one week in NWFP. He said investigations are underway and the government would not let the perpetrators go unpunished.
He said investigation into suicide blast in Rawalpindi in which Surgeon General of Pakistan Army was martyred is progressing well.He pointed out that situation Swat is improving and during the last one week curfew remained relaxed from 6 am to 8 pm. Security forces not only distributed rations to two hundred families but also established free medical camps at number of locations.He said in search and cordon operations, security forces have arrested twenty-two militants. One captured militant was involved in the beheading of police personnel in Charbagh and another is a close associate of militant leader Maulana Fazalullah.Answering a question, Brig. Cheema said the Interior Ministry has asked the Islamabad administration to make arrangements for the children of deposed Chief Justice to attend schools.
