LHC adjourns Qazaf case against Elahi, Fazl

Lahore High Court adjourned the hearing of the Qazaf case against the Opposition Leader National Assembly Chaudhary Pervez Elahi, JUI-F Chief Moulana Fazal-ur-Rehman and others here on Friday.

The court also directed the police not to arrest the respondents till the next hearing of the case which will be fixed in the first week of September.

Dr Maqsood Hussain, a surgeon of the Mayo Hospital Lahore filed a suit in the session court earlier and alleged that in 2005 a rape case was registered against him by a young Kashmiri girl Habiba Jabeen.

He further alleged that the then CM Punjab Pervaiz Elahi, then Opposition Leader Fazal-ur-Rehman, ex Chief Secretary Punjab Salman Siddique, Additional Secretary Health Nawaz Khokhar, two women MPAs, Mayo Hospital Fayyaz Ranjha, VC King Edward Medical University Mumtaz Hassan, ex SSP Operation Lahore Amir Zulfiqar Cheema and others supported the complainant girl to defame him.

Maqsood said that he filed petition before the Supreme Court and was declared innocent so he also filed a suit, requesting the session court Lahore to proceed against the respondents under the Qazaf Act as they levelled against him a bogus case.

The Session Court had issued non bailable arrest warrants of all the respondents but Chief Justice Lahore High Court taking suo-motto notice ordered to refer the case to the LHC where Justice Moulvi Anwarul Haq suspended the arrest warrants and sought the complete record of the case. LHC ,earlier on last hearing, also allowed Ch.Pervaiz ,Farzana Nazir and Dr.Mumtaz Hassan to become parties in the case to defend themselves.

LHC on Friday, started the hearing of the case, however, the plaintiff did not appear before the court and the court adjourned the hearing till the first week of September.
