The Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, has reiterated his resolve to protect the country’s frontiers, saying that all elements of the national power under the new democratic leadership will safeguard the territorial integrity of Pakistan.
“Pakistan Army is capable to safeguard the ideological and territorial boundaries of the country with active support and backing of the people”, he said in his address at the concluding session of the 111th Corps Commanders Conference on Friday. The two-day conference started on Thursday, and was attended by all Corps Commanders and Principal Staff Officers of Pakistan Army.
General Kayani said that there was complete unanimity of views between the Government and the Army. He said that all military operations in Pakistan would be conducted by Pakistan Army with complete consent and permission of the government.
The participants were given comprehensive briefing on the prevailing geo-strategic environment and the recent strategic engagements with major stake holders regarding peace and security in the region and beyond. The conference reviewed the on-going military operation in Swat, Kurram and Bajaur Agencies against the miscreants challenging the writ of the government.
The top brass of Pakistan army also discussed matters related to professional capabilities, training and requirements of the Pakistan Army. They also discussed the situation which emerged after the air and ground assaults by ISAF forces on Pakistan killing civilians in large number including women and children.
