Indian spy Sarabjit’s Singh’s family will arrive in Pakistan on Wednesday to meet him after a period of 18 years.Sarabjit, who Pakistan claims is Manjit Singh has been languishing on death row in Pakistan’s jail, after being convicted of being an Indian spy. His family denies he is a spy as alleged by Pakistan and insists he accidentally strayed into the Pakistani territory. The Pak govt recently granted visa to Sarabjit Singh’s family to facilitate the meeting. They hope to get Sarabjit’s sentence commuted to life imprisonment. As of now he is scheduled to be hanged on May 1st. Ansar Burney, former Human Rights minister of Pakistan will receive his family on their arrival. Sarabjit’s family is also expected to meet ruling coalition leaders Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz Sharif. The new dispensation in Pakistan has been seen favouring Sarabjit’s case. The government has asked President Musharraf for commuting of all death sentences to life imprisonment. His mercy petition was rejected by Musharraf on March 3. Pakistan`s Supreme Court too rejected Sarabjit`s plea for clemency earlier in March 2006.
