Indian prisoner released after 35 yearsAn Indian prisoner Kashmir Singh, arrested in 1973 on spying charges from Rawalpindi, was released here on Monday from the Kot Lakhpat Jail. Pakistani court had awarded him death sentence. The President of Pakistan has waived his death penalty and ordered his release.
Federal Minister for Human Rights Ansar Burney will take him to India via Wahga border on Tuesday morning. Earlier, Kashmir Singh was scheduled to visit Nankana Sahib, but due to security reasons, he was barred from going there by the authorities. Now he will stay at a local five-star hotel as a state guest before leaving for India on Tuesday. After his release, talking to media, Kashmir Singh thanked the President of Pakistan and the people of Pakistan for setting him free after 35 years. He also appealed to the Indian government to free Pakistani prisoners from its jails as a goodwill gesture.
