Despite protest by Pakistan, Indian Army has again planned to organise a civilian mountaineering and trekking expedition to Siachen Glacier for the second year in a row in October-November this year.
India had planned such expedition to Siachen last year amidst protest by Pakistan that it was a disputed territory.
Media reports quoting source in army headquarter here said the expedition this year is in its planning stage. Another Khatling expedition by the Army’s 15 Mechanised Infantry Regiment will also be taken to the glacial heights of Khatling on the Indo-Tibetan border in Uttarakhand from June 25 to July 7.
The sources said the objective of both the expeditions is to demonstrate to the international community that “Indian troops hold both the Siachen and Khatling glacial heights and neither Pakistan nor China were anywhere near the two Glaciers.”
