Fokker crash in 2006 caused by crew negligence: MD PIA

The Fokker crash at Multan in 2006 had occurred due to the negligence of the crew, PIA Managing Director Captain Muhammad Aijaz Haroon informed a Senate panel Wednesday, citing the findings of an inquiry. In reply to a question at a meeting of the Senate Standing committee on Defence chaired by Senator Nisar a Memon, the PIA managing director said the inquiry report had been finalized.According to the report the crew of the aircraft kept trying to put off the fire in the engine and did not pay heed to raising the landing gear of the aircraft.”It was a lapse on the part of the crew as they did not raise the landing gear and continued to fight the fire”, he said. All 45 passengers were killed in the crash of PK-688 on July 10, 2006 soon after take-off from Multan airport.
