The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), for the week ended on Sept 17, for the lowest income group up to Rs3,000, registered an increase of 0.49 per cent over the previous week.The SPI for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 237.37 as against 236.21 registered in the previous week, according provisional figures of the Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS). SPI for the combined group registered an increase of 0.57 per cent by growing up from 226.41 in the previous week to 227.70 in the week under review.As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for combined group in the week under review witnessed an increase of 9.32 per cent.As compared to the previous week, the SPI for the group falling in the income brackets of 3001-5000, 5001-12000 and above increased by 0.53 per cent, 0.56 per cent and 0.54 per cent, respectively.
During the week under review, average prices of 11 items registered decrease, while that of 15 items increased, with the remaining 27 items’ prices unchanged.The items which recorded decrease in their average prices during the week under review included potatoes, bananas, mustard oil, mash pulse (washed), gur, moong pulse (washed), rice basmati (broken), rice Irri-6, garlic, gram pulse (washed), vegetable ghee (loose). The items which registered increase in their prices included tomatoes, onions, egg hen (farm), chicken (farm), LPG( 11 kg cylinder), sugar, kerosene, curd, wheat flour (average quality), milk (fresh), wheat (average quality), masoor pulse (washed), beef, firewood and mutton.
The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included, bread plain (mid size), milk (powdered), vegetable ghee (tin), cooking oil (tin), salt (powdered), red chillies, tea (packet), tea (prepared), cooked beef, cooked dal, cigarettes, coarse latha, lawn, voil (printed), shirting, sandal (gents), sandal (ladies), chappal, electricity bulb, match box, washing soap, bath soap, gas charges (up to 3.3719 mmbtu), electricity charges (1-100 unit), petrol, diesel and local telephone call.
