Minister for Railways Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour on yesterday informed the National Assembly that Pakistan Railways total payables stood at Rs58,603.363 million till January while its total loss at Rs34,037.322 million so far.
Responding to a question during Question Hour, he explained that severe shortage of engines was primary reason of loss, resulting complete closure of freight service, which was regarded as a vital source for income generation. The Minister mentioned that no new engines had been bought since
March 2008 and at present only 180 engines were useful.
