Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has said that 1 % increase in sales tax wouldn’t be withdrawn. He told the Senate’s Standing Committee on Finance on today that the increase would be applicable from July 1.
The board gathering was presided over by its chairperson Senator Nasreen Jalil. The participants of the gathering opposed the increase in the sales tax as well as 10 % raise in the wages of govt workers. They said that the salary increment for the govt workers wasn’t enough.
The minister told the conference that the sales tax could be dropped if the govt could handle taxes up to Rs60 billion via taxes.
